Artasia is a thematic annual arts initiative, bringing children together, community- wide, to discover the transformative power of the arts.

The pillars of the Artasia program are art education, civic engagement, environmentalism, innovation, and storytelling. Working with our partners, we bring Artasia to over 500 young people each summer. Their work is shared in many ways, including a large-scale, collaborative art exhibition debuting at the end of August and tours throughout the region.

Artasia is designed with an understanding of the importance of creativity to development, and the ideas of young people, both of which are vital to shaping strong healthy communities. This innovative program encourages collaboration, mutual learning and the multi-generational sharing of knowledge, with children, secondary school students, new generation emerging artists and practicing artists working together to uncover the potential in our community.

When we work together to address the challenges facing our community, we are reminded that no person should be ignored or forgotten, and that we have the power to transform our neighbourhoods with innovative solutions. We use art to empower the voices, imagination, and potential of the children in our community.

Artasia 2017

CKA presents I Have a Right, the focus of Artasia 2017 in partnership with the Pen Pal Project and the City of Hamilton.

Often when you’re a child, your voice gets overshadowed by adults. So I really wanted to listen to what the children had to say.
